Not What I Call It, But What God Calls It

“But I did obey the Lord,” Saul insisted.  [1 Samuel 15.20a]
It is so easy to read this story and see clearly that Saul, in fact, did not obey the LORD.
How dare him!
But I am afraid this is exactly what we do!  Jesus clearly defined what some of the things that His New Covenant followers were to be and do - but we "are not" and "do not" those things and somehow still think we are pleasing to Him.
Oh to be sure, when called to account, we insist that we are repentant and in need of forgiveness, but we then continue on doing the very same things!  What's wrong with this picture?

The thing is, in this story, Saul lost his anointing and power with God.  In my story (this blog) how many times have I questioned why alleged Christians are so powerless today?

It is not difficult to connect the dots...

Father, if any story in the Bible describes why Your people are so isolated and powerless today, this story is it.  Help us to return to obedience to You - not what we call obedience, but what You call obedience!
