How Would Things Be Different?

I love the practicality of today's OYCB reading...  Some of it however is more than just a bit of a cultural stretch for us today, but some of it is what we today could say is 'spot on.'

What worries me though is the essence of what I have stated above.  Who am I to choose, based on some cultural rating, whether or not I follow these instructions?  Either I follow the instructions given by God to and through Moses or I do not.

Right?

Sometimes I really think I read the Bible like some kind of novelty book - like a fairy tale...  The stories, although sometimes far-fetched are heart-warming and teach nice lessons.  I wager that I am not alone in this perception.  The problem with this however is that the Bible is not a fairy tale - nothing in God's Story was ever intended to be discounted as far-fetched or incredible.  Every edict or mandate God put in place has a purpose and a reason - even if we never understand or comply.

Frankly, if God's instructions are subject to time and culture, then, God is not God but time and culture are God...  Think about it.

How would things be different if we viewed God's Word the way He views His Word?

Okay, I will stop now...

Father, I want Your Word to penetrate my being and control my every action.  Help me to ignore the distractions.  Help me to view Your Word as You view Your Word!
