Offerings

From today's OYCB reading, three different offerings were discussed.

The burnt offering seems to have been completely burned as an offering to the Lord.

The grain offering was food for the priests after a representative portion was burnt on the altar.

The peace offering was another animal sacrifice a portion of which was offered on the altar (burnt) and the rest was apparently consumed by the people (but without fat or blood).

It is noteworthy that the donor of sacrificial animals was to lay his hand upon the animal's head when it was killed.  This was a ceremonial symbol of payment for sin (shedding blood) being attributed to the one whose hand was upon the head of the animal at its death.

If Jesus is our sacrifice (once and for all), how do we (or did we) lay our hands upon His head?

Father, help me to grasp all the meaning of the sacrifices as I read about them - help me to see Jesus in it all!
