Making Good On His Promise

My lord, I guaranteed to my father that I would take care of the boy.  I told him, ‘If I don’t bring him back to you, I will bear the blame forever.’  “So please, my lord, let me stay here as a slave instead of the boy, and let the boy return with his brothers. [Genesis 44.32, 33]

Judah got the opportunity to make good on his promise to his father Jacob.  The time came and Judah followed through.

It is of no small surprise that Judah is the lineage the prophets proclaimed would identify the Messiah.  God made a promise regarding redemption from the consequences of sin and He followed through!

IN the NT portion of the OYB reading today I struggled to get my mind around the picture of Jesus walking on the water.  I mean, I don't doubt the story, but those waves were BIG!  How was Jesus walking on them?  Was there a "calm" surrounding the immediate area where Jesus was standing?  Otherwise, how would Jesus ever keep His balance on tumultuous seas?  Just a question...

Father, thank You for the picture of commitment seen in Judah today.  Thank You for the foreshadow of Jesus following through on Your promise as well!
