Timothy, my dear son, be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus. [II Timothy 2.1]
Strength through grace - now there is a phrase to be reckoned with! I think we have a tendency to equate grace with something soft - something timid - something vulnerable. But Paul is encouraging Timothy here that grace will be the strengthening factor in his journey. Grace will be the power by which Timothy can endure suffering, not as a helpless victim, but as one who has chosen that very path of suffering to reach a chosen destination! It is like suffering with purpose! It is grace that provides that strength!
Father, as I consider the journey yet ahead of me, I want to walk in the strength of grace!
