I wonder today who Paul was talking about when he mentioned "super apostles." I had thought the classification "apostle" was reserved for those who had actually come into contact with Christ while He was on earth. And, Paul was included in that classification because of his Damascus Road experience.
Three things these super apostles did: 1) preached a different Jesus than Paul preached, 2) preached a different kind of Spirit than Paul's converts received, and 3) preached a different kind of gospel than what Paul's converts believed.
Is it even remotely possible that Paul was referring to any of the apostles we have come to know so well? We know Paul confronted Peter over the subject of grace... and that would definitely be a "different gospel."
Paul makes these super apostles out to be more than just "a little off" however. He compares them to Satan himself who intentionally deceives.
Father, there is much left unknown about what Paul was talking about to the Corinthians. Obviously the Corinthians knew what Paul was talking about - but we are not exactly privy to the whole story. Give us the grace to at least try to comprehend the history involved in this writing and receive Your Word through it!
