Its pretty simple really...
Learn to do good. Seek Justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows. [Isaiah 1.17]
It seems to me that Isaiah has made a strong case for simplifying our devotion. And what is most outstanding about Isaiah's directive is that most of what he said concerns our treatment of others.
It never ceases to amaze me how intricate religious people are about learning not only what the letter of the law requires, but even the nuances of what to do or not to do. And yet, with all the quest for knowledge and holiness, man fails most on the obvious - those things that Isaiah defines, "Learn to do good. Seek Justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows."
Father, help me to focus on what is really important. Help me to pay attention to my devotion to You as is found in the basics defined by Isaiah.
