False Conclusion

“But perhaps you will say to me, ‘We are trusting in the Lord our God!’ But isn’t he the one who was insulted by Hezekiah? Didn’t Hezekiah tear down his shrines and altars and make everyone in Judah and Jerusalem worship only at the altar here in Jerusalem? [Isaiah 36.7]

The king of Assyria was wrong. Plain and simple, the king had his facts all askew. He was accurate in his estimation that Heziekiah was responsible for destroying the altars of deities in Judah. But he had no clue that it was for the purpose of solely worshiping the Lord God alone.

This account is evidence that not all that is thought or said is one hundred percent accurate. It is easy to take a fact here and there and arrive at an altogether false conclusion.

Christian beware! It is important that we get our facts straight when we launch an "offensive." This will require some research. Likewise, it is important that we are ready to clarify the facts of our faith so that Truth may be seen. And sometimes, as the Jews in today's OT reading did, it is best that we hold our tongues and simply watch the hand of God come to our defence.

Hmmm...

Father, help me to get my facts straight. Help me to learn more of You - more of Your Son - more of Your plan for the earth and mankind. Help me to listen more than I speak.
