Even in Ahab's death sentence, God still gives him one more chance - Micaiah. No doubt, God's decision to terminate Ahab was well-founded, but Ahab was blind to his last hope - Micaiah.
What would have happened if Ahab had considered Micaiah's words and repented? One could rest safely assured that, based on other accounts of those who genuinely repented, God's forgiving character would have prevailed and history would have been different.
Another point to ponder today was the fact that Micaiah was the only prophet declaring defeat when asked to give God's opinion regarding attacking Ramoth-gilead. The stark contrast of this fact is only made more clear by the detail that there were four hundred other prophets declaring victory.
Shouldn't Micaiah, standing alone, have recognized his obvious error and conformed to the consensus? The answer is ultimately and indisputably found in the outcome.
This speaks to me more than anything today.
Father, help me to listen carefully to Your voice. Help me to be prepared to follow the leading of Your Spirit even when everyone else disagrees. Give me wisdom to know the difference between Your voice and my own deception.
