Music - A 24/7 Routine

I've always found it interesting that music (instruments and singing) played such an important role in not only the dedication of the Temple, but in the daily Temple routine.

I wonder what it would be like today for the scads of musicians out there if the church adopted this employ of music. Perhaps there would be a whole new workforce out there! AND could it be possible that the church would re-enter a long forgotten level of communication with God that has vanished?

I am not talking about singing "specials" on Sunday morning or simply having a colossal choir. What I see in these Temple accounts is a regular round-the-clock staff of musical workers who are responsible for praising and worshipping God non-stop.

While the modern church does attempt to at least emulate some practices of devotion to God, this is the one area that I (personally) see no attempt made whatsoever at exercising. We encourage Bible reading. We encourage prayer. But we do not encourage the one thing that in the Temple was a 24/7 routine - music (by live musicians and singers).

Hmmm. What if more of church budgets were focused on God (non-stop live worship) than on programs for people? Just a thought...

Father, it seems odd to me that we, the church, today focus on so many minor details and completely overlook glaringly obvious details about worshipping You. Help us to get it right!
