The Praises We Sing

My heart is confident in you, O God; no wonder I can sing your praises with all my heart! [Psalm 108.1]

I often wonder why it is so doggone hard to worship God. There are many reasons I have heard, but today's Psalm seems to most accurately define the problem. Unbelief.

The psalmist indicated that praising God with all his heart was the natural and expected result of genuine faith (confidence in God).

I think we today are entirely too proud to admit that we are faithless however. I think we would rather describe our subdued demeanor as 'reflective' or 'meditative' - when, in fact, it is completely void of faith leaving therefore nothing to sing praises about!

Frankly, without faith, we live in the same damnation as everyone else. Perhaps the church is indistinguishable from the world for this very reason! Perhaps our faith may be gauged literally by the praises we sing...

Father, You are indeed so very good. The truth hurts, but it gives real definition to the life of faith and how my life measures up. Thank You!
