Getting All The Facts

So the Israelites examined their [the Gibeonite's] food, but they did not consult the Lord. [Joshua 9.14]

The Israelite leaders got the facts. No one could accuse them of making an uninformed decision! They understood the details - there was no need to pray. And, as Joshua records, they did not seek God's input.

All the facts in the world sometimes are not enough to make the right decision. I know it sounds good - and certainly smart - but getting all the facts may only be part of the story. Do we dare pray about it? Would God indicate anything different than the facts indicate?

This story in the OT reading today answers those questions. "Knowing all the facts" is a misunderstanding in and of itself. While it is possible to know a lot of the facts, there may still be factors we haven't even a clue about. Adopting this mentality is wise and always leaves room for additional input... Who better to consult then than God (especially for those who believe He indeed infinitely knows ALL the facts)?

If we knew anything of ourselves and God we would definitely pray more.

Father, help me to remember The Gibeonites' deception of Israel as I make every day decisions. Help me to remember that "all the facts" may simply not be enough information. God I need You to guide me.
