In the United States of America this day has sadly become associated with pain, suffering, and great loss. Today marks the dark anniversary of a deadly terrorist attack on the USA and subsequent destruction of the World Trade Center towers in Manhattan.
"Listen to my prayer, O God. Do not ignore my cry for help! Please listen and answer me, for I am overwhelmed by my troubles." Psalm 55.1-2
As I read this passage in the One Year Bible today and reflected on how appropriate this passage is for my own current situation - today - right now, I remembered what day it is relative to American history.
How does God know? Really, and as well, how could it even be remotely possible that someone who decides to divide the Bible up into 365 daily readings could so accurately match scripture to occasion? Is this possible? My mind cannot grasp the whole concept.
What I can grasp though is that God cares. And although I cannot fathom the masterful orchestration necessary to make events and scripture 'line up', I am grateful for the timeliness of the Word of the living God speaking to me personally and to a nation corporately. Wow.
My prayer today:
Listen to my prayer, O God. Do not ignore my cry for help! Please listen and answer me, for I am overwhelmed by my troubles.
