Loyalty Of Faith

LORD, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing. You guard all that is mine. [Psalm 16.5]

To say I don't struggle with this verse would be a lie. It's not  because of the verse though, but because of me. As I consider all that I have insured against loss or damage, I find it extremely difficult to believe I genuinely trust God alone to guard all that is mine. I question my loyalty of faith.

Obviously, David did not have the convenience or security of insurance. When he said, "You guard all that is mine," it was from a pure, unadulterated and loyal faith in God alone. He had no safety net of insurance to give him a moment's doubt or confusion whether or not his loyalty of faith was divided or watered down in any way. If God did not provide David's inheritance, there would be none at all.

Are we fortunate or damned that we don't have to trust God that much? I think the latter.

But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do. [James 1.6-8]

Father, help me - help us - to review our loyalty of faith. May we be found in genuine faith that pleases You before a watching world, and not in abstract religion that is meaningless and unimpactful. So be it.
