Then Haggai responded, “That is how it is with this people and this nation, says the LORD. Everything they do and everything they offer is defiled by their sin. Look at what was happening to you before you began to lay the foundation of the LORD’s Temple. When you hoped for a twenty-bushel crop, you harvested only ten. When you expected to draw fifty gallons from the winepress, you found only twenty. I sent blight and mildew and hail to destroy everything you worked so hard to produce. Even so, you refused to return to me, says the LORD. [Haggai 2.14-17]
How did they know they were defiled by their sin? They experienced curses as defined in Deuteronomy 28.15-68. However, armed with this knowledge, the people refused to repent.
Curses do not lie.
Father, it is obvious that mankind today has done exactly what is described in the passage above - in the face of obvious curses, we have refused to repent. Forgive us for this stiff-necked rejection of You and Your Word. Forgive us as we repent and trust in Jesus. May the curses upon our nation and our homes be broken as we come into the reality that Christ has redeemed us from the curse...
