The Jordan River

But his officers tried to reason with him and said, “Sir, if the prophet had told you to do something very difficult, wouldn’t you have done it? So you should certainly obey him when he says simply, ‘Go and wash and be cured!’” So Naaman went down to the Jordan River and dipped himself seven times, as the man of God had instructed him. And his skin became as healthy as the skin of a young child, and he was healed! [2 Kings 5.13-14]

I've heard many sermons and lessons about Naaman. However, I've never heard it pointed out that a common denominator with Elisha (as it seems to have been with Elijah as well) was the Jordan River.

As all things "Elisha" go, I wonder what the chances are that the place Naaman approached and entered the Jordan River was the same place where Elisha and Elijah miraculously crossed before. And, was it the same place Israel crossed with Joshua on dry ground? I think the chances of this are high because most people tend to stay on established roads and paths. This increases the chances of these events occurring in the same place.

It is unremarkable then, that there is a story of a floating ax head in today's OYCB reading also at the Jordan River and also involving Elisha.

Even if these events did not take place in the exact same spot, they all took place in the Jordan River and within a small region. It kind of makes me interested to go there myself!

Father, I see the Jordan River as a common denominator in these stories of great miracles. Help me understand the significance of this!
