And the LORD told Moses, “When you arrive back in Egypt, go to Pharaoh and perform all the miracles I have empowered you to do. But I will harden his heart so he will refuse to let the people go. Then you will tell him, ‘This is what the LORD says: Israel is my firstborn son. I commanded you, “Let my son go, so he can worship me.” But since you have refused, I will now kill your firstborn son!’” [Exodus 4.21-23]
To this point, in the story of Moses, we have already seen quite the resistance from Moses regarding his role in leading Israel out of Egypt. Moses had something to argue about much of what God told him to do.
Although the accounts of God telling Moses what to expect vary, ultimately God informed Moses he would speak death over Pharoah's son (as seen in the scripture above).
While Moses' story gives me hope (personally) that God is patient with us in doing His will, it also shows me that men suffer when they do not simply obey God. In fact, at one point God apparently gave up on Moses and it was the intercessory actions of Moses' wife that kept him alive (...a little plug here for wives praying for their husbands!!!)! It also cannot be ignored that Moses' stubbornness eventually got him blocked from entering the Promised Land himself.
What is the point of all this conversation? The point is, we should obey God blindly and without contestation. Just DO what God says! It's called FAITH (it would later be recorded that without faith it is IMPOSSIBLE to please God -Hebrews 11.6).
Now, if Moses' example serves as allegory to us today, what might it be saying about us entering our "Promise Land" of Heaven?
Pharoah's stubbornness was one thing, but Moses' stubbornness should scare the living daylight out of us!
Father, may I be found compliant and willing in every regard to You and Your will!
