What We Don't Know

The whole earth is in the hands of the wicked, and God blinds the eyes of the judges. If he’s not the one who does it, who is? [Job 9.24]

Worth comparing to the verse above is the following:

If only there were a mediator between us, someone who could bring us together. [Job 9.33]

Based on what we know today, Job was quite ignorant of two things: 1) the existence of Satan and, 2) the promise of Messiah.

Here is my question: Why would Job be ignorant of these two things? In fact, Job's story takes place very early as Bible history goes. Would not the story of the Garden of Eden and Adam and Eve's fateful encounter with Satan still be somewhat fresh as history goes? Likewise, would not God promise of redemption (already in place at this time) have some bearing on Job?

Knowing God is much more than just living a perfect life for all to see. As the story of Job develops, we will see that Job finally acknowledges this fact and repents of running his mouth about that which he had no knowledge of!

Point to consider: we should all be considerate of that which we do not know!

Father, help me to be slow to speak but swift to hear... I want to know You more every day.
