Self-Evaluation

Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us. [Romans 12.3]

Paul's instruction to remain humble is timeless.

The only standard against we are to measure ourselves is faith. In other words, since faith is the only thing that pleases God, then faith is necessarily the only measure of our pleasing God.

We cannot measure how much we please God in how many souls we lead to Christ.

We cannot measure how much we please God in how many Sundays we go to church.

We cannot measure how much we please God in how much we read the Bible and pray.

How much we please God can ONLY be measured in how much we walk and live by faith. In all of history, and for good reason, no one demonstrated the life of faith better than Jesus. This is why our lives should be lived "in HIM."

Our self-evaluation is only accurate if we measure ourselves against Christ.

Wow, that puts a different light on things!

Father, help me to live my life not for me but for Christ!
