What Does It Mean?

The LORD said to Moses, “Give Aaron the following instructions: When you set up the seven lamps in the lampstand, place them so their light shines forward in front of the lampstand.” So Aaron did this. He set up the seven lamps so they reflected their light forward, just as the LORD had commanded Moses. [Numbers 8.1-3]

Okay, if the lamps are casting light forward, that would mean, the light would be shining to the north toward the table with the Bread of the Presence. Also in the path of the light and to the right, would be the altar of incense.

What does it mean?

Jesus referred to Himself as the Bread of Life. John wrote that the Word of God became flesh and dwelt among us - and he was speaking of Jesus.

Jesus said directly, "I am the Light of the world."

Jesus also said, speaking to His followers, "You are the light of the world."

The lamps would burn oil - that always represents the Holy Spirit. So, the Holy Spirit, when 'burned?' makes the "light" found both in Jesus and His followers.

The "light," as Moses was instructed, was to face forward, or, toward the Bread, or, Jesus, or, the Word of God.

Interestingly enough, the light would shine "through" (so to speak) the smoke of the incense altar between the light and the Bread. Incense represents prayer.

It all seems very inter-related. And, all just ritualistic until that veil in the Temple was torn so that now it is all open to God and God is open to it.

So much to consider!

Father, I am a bit overwhelmed with how these Tabernacle things have meaning beyond their obvious function. Help me to learn from them!
