The Power of Sin

But the people who did not die in these plagues still refused to repent of their evil deeds and turn to God. They continued to worship demons and idols made of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood—idols that can neither see nor hear nor walk! And they did not repent of their murders or their witchcraft or their sexual immorality or their thefts. [Revelation 9.20-21]

What is amazing here is the fact that these who refuse to repent, but insist on continuing in sin, have experienced unimaginable suffering by this time. In other words, no matter how bad it gets, they still prefer their life of sin.

If sin is that powerful, then we should pay close attention to our own lives that we give it no foothold whatsoever.

Sin is like a highly intoxicating drink, the more it is drunk, the more damage is done, but still more is consumed. We are better off not to take that 'first drink' of sin - and certainly better off not developing a taste for it!

Father, forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
