And when people escape from the wickedness of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and then get tangled up and enslaved by sin again, they are worse off than before. It would be better if they had never known the way to righteousness than to know it and then reject the command they were given to live a holy life. [2 Peter 2.20-21]
Man, this is serious stuff.
I know we as Christians enjoy great grace upon our lives, but that grace is not given so we might continue in ungodliness!
It is no secret that a person who comes to Jesus and then goes back to old ways is in trouble. Big trouble. With the verses above combined with the discussion on "turning away" found in Hebrews, there is little hope for the backslider.
God's call on our lives is to holiness. That holiness is found in Christ and supported by the Holy Spirit. To purposefully walk away from Christ and reject the help of the Spirit is spiritual suicide.
This is a sober discussion! As it should be.
Father, help us to give every consideration to our walk with You and preserve it as the most precious thing it is.
