It Is Not About Self

Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. [Hebrews 10.24-25]

There is a good reason we need to assemble with other believers. It is to motivate each other to acts of love and good works.

Many of our "church services" are a lot of things other than what they should be. We have spent a lot of time and resources on a plethora of activities that are self-centered instead of other-centered.

I can't help but believe that if we would re-think our motives in our meetings that we might see a little more of Jesus in them! Likewise, this thinking should dominate our prayer.

Any time we focus on self, we have grossly missed the point.

Father, I realize it's "not about me," but I also realize how ingrained 'me-thinking' is in our culture and therefore in me... Please forgive me - forgive us.
