No harm comes to the godly, but the wicked have their fill of trouble. [Proverbs 12.21]
Solomon evidently believed this enough to record it in writing.
It made it into the Bible - most would agree it is God's Word.
But how many of us truly believe it?
Why do we have trouble believing it? I think it is because we have 'muddied the waters' with false teaching about God - namely that we have been taught that not all suffering is directly tied to sin. With that kind of unreliable standard, there is no hope for standing on a belief that we can rise above circumstances in this life and prevail victorious (not just "religious" victory, but financial, physical, emotional, etc. victory as well).
So what is a "godly" person? A godly person is a person who submits to God, believes that Jesus ransomed them, and receives that redemption through repentance for unbelief and faithlessness. Is this person perfect? No, but they are forgiven. And, they remain forgiven because they live a repentant lifestyle.
If harm comes to the godly, then the Bible is a lie and God does not exist (or, if He does exist, He is a liar). SO, if God DOES exist and He is NOT a liar, then, when we encounter trouble, WE NEED TO REPENT because "no harm comes to the godly!!!"
Got harm? REPENT!
Got troubles? REPENT!
Father, I am only further convinced today of our need for repentance and a repentant lifestyle. Forgive me for unbelief!
