Fame

When the queen of Sheba heard of Solomon’s fame, which brought honor to the name of the LORD, she came to test him with hard questions. [1 Kings 10.1]

An important fact is included in the verse above. That fact is that Solomon's fame brought honor to the name of the LORD (Yahweh).

Solomon's fame could easily have brought honor to himself. But it was worth noting evidently that his fame brought honor to God.

Why is this important? It is important because God did not design man to receive praise. At least at this point in Solomon's life, he was faithful to give all the glory to God. And, it would seem just by Solomon's lifestyle that the honor was transferred to God - in other words, there was more to it than Solomon simply saying, "all the glory and honor is God's." Solomon's life and fame remained attached to God (again, at least up to this point).

So, as I reflect upon my own life, I must ask myself this question: does my life bring honor to the name of God? Are my successes and achievements directly associated to the LORD's blessing on my life or to my own efforts and abilities?

Father, I want You to be seen as the reason for anything good in me - because You are!
