Vows Are That Important

And she said, “Father, if you have made a vow to the LORD, you must do to me what you have vowed, for the LORD has given you a great victory over your enemies, the Ammonites. [Judges 11.36]

It probably had nothing to do with this verse, but I am thinking of another time when a child said to his father, "Not My will, but Your's be done..."

A vow had been made. "Right" or "wrong" is not the point of the story as much as keeping the vow. Both the father and the child recognized that the vow must be kept. The power of the spoken word was more important than even a one and only child's life.

Did God promise He would save the world?

Did God keep His promise?

Did Jesus honor His Father's promise?

Yes, yes, and yes.

That's all. Vows are that important.

Father, help me to understand the importance of making and keep promises.
