Too Much Talk

A wise man wouldn’t answer with such empty talk! You are nothing but a windbag. The wise don’t engage in empty chatter. What good are such words? [Job 15.2-3]

...Says Eliphaz to Job.

Won’t you ever stop blowing hot air?  What makes you keep on talking? [Job 16.3]

...Says Job to Eliphaz.

How long before you stop talking? Speak sense if you want us to answer! [Job 18.2]

...Says Bildad to Job.

Everyone is telling everyone else to shut up and yet no one is shutting up themselves! It sounds just like most arguments even today - just a bunch of words that are accomplishing nothing.

Just a bunch of words that are accomplishing nothing...

Let me correct myself. All the words argued back and forth in the book of Job DO accomplish something... they completely and thoroughly confuse. They did then and they do now!

Think with me how many people have argued about the book of Job - just like the characters in the story of Job argued!

We must all remain mindful however that Job and his friends were all rebuked in the end. Job confessed that he should have kept his mouth shut.

Wow. Lesson to self - It is not worth arguing about, just shut up already... and pray.

Father, I am confounded today at how blind I have been when reading the story of Job so many times in the past without realizing that everyone was simply talking too much! Help me to take this to heart!
