The Origin Of The Universe

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. [Genesis 1.1]

I watched a documentary on Stephen Hawking a few days ago. He has dedicated his life to discovering the origin of the universe. His persistence against unimaginable difficulties (in both life and academia) is compelling.

Throughout the above-mentioned documentary, there were scenes depicting complicated mathematical formulas that seem to serve as the basis for Hawking's conclusions.

Question: How does one know, absolutely without doubt, what numbers to plug into the mathematical formulas that allegedly prove the order and origin of the universe? How CAN anyone know? There are no records.

The closest thing we have to a 'record' of the beginning of the universe is the Bible. Yes, it may seem sketchy in its facts, but it IS an ancient record, and, as such should be valued for its historic contribution!

I am convinced that if we utilize the documentation of the Bible as the basis for our mathematical calculations, we will find more continuity in our understanding of the 'way things are.' It is my firm belief that the 'math' we can glean from the Bible will serve as the perfect set of 'constant numbers' to plug into our mathematical formulas and arrive at the desired level of balance in our understanding of the universe in which we live.

But then, I am at peace with God as Creator. I have no bones to pick with Him as to His claims to Creation. I believe His rules serve to maintain order. I accept that He is in control and I am not.

Furthermore, in my devotion to God, the Story of the Bible, and Jesus Christ, I have personally experienced inner peace and balance as I have witnessed His interaction with my life. Yes, I have faith. And, yes, there is much I do not understand, but I am learning.

Just like I trusted that the letters and numbers my kindergarten teachers taught me were going to be useful in the future, so I have trusted my Bible lessons will mean more in the future. And, just like my kindergarten foundation proved to be a reliable basis for the rest of my education, so, my Bible foundation has proven to be a reliable basis for my understanding of the universe and my purpose in it.

It IS all about education, isn't it? We are creatures meant to learn.

But its even more than education! Its even more than learning! Not only does the Bible give clues to the origin of the universe, but it also gives crystal clear instruction for how to live in this universe: it teaches love.

Sadly however, one must choose to receive and give love in order to enjoy its benefit. Our world and history is all too full of instances of our failures at receiving and giving love.

But God, the same God Who claims to be Originator of the universe, also claims love. And His love was demonstrated in Jesus Christ. It is a fantastic Story - some think far too fantastic, but, this Story has survived centuries and has untold testimonies (records) of lives changed. I am one of those lives.

Yes, I am a believer.

Father, I believe in You. I believe in Jesus Christ Your Son my Savior. Let my life be a light and a testimony to others.
