Don't Be Fooled

So the Israelites examined their [the deceiving Gibeonites'] food, but they did not consult the LORD. Then Joshua made a peace treaty with them and guaranteed their safety, and the leaders of the community ratified their agreement with a binding oath. [Joshua 9.14-15]

How many bad decisions have been made for this very reason?

Deception is our enemy's calling card. In the case of this story of deception, the facts all looked legitimate:

The bread was indeed old and moldy.

Their wine skins were aged and cracked.

Their clothes were old and worn.

No doubt every single fact pointed to the strangers' claims that they were from far away. Every single fact or course except their claim itself!

Again, this is the enemy's "modus operandi!" It is his nature - he, Satan, is a liar.

So what if all the facts in our life point to one thing or another? What has God said?

I could go on and on about this, but the point has been made - "Don't be fooled!"

Father, help me to be slow to accept facts and quick to obey You and Your Word!
