An Amazing Sight

They marched for three days after leaving the mountain of the Lord, with the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant moving ahead of them to show them where to stop and rest.  As they moved on each day, the cloud of the Lord hovered over them.  And whenever the Ark set out, Moses would shout, “Arise, O Lord, and let your enemies be scattered!  Let them flee before you!”  And when the Ark was set down, he would say, “Return, O Lord, to the countless thousands of Israel!” [Numbers 10.33-36]

Here is a place in scripture where more detail would be intriguing.  It must have been an amazing sight when Israel packed up and moved in the wilderness.

What we know of the organization of the tribes of Israel as well as the protocol concerning the Tabernacle, is evidence enough that the process of moving was not only well thought-out but also necessary.

The brief description of the two silver trumpets in today's reading gives some idea of how the people were able to work in concert for any given task.  Again, detail would have been nice, but from what the scripture provides, we may conclude that there were distinct and unique trumpet calls as well as the singular or dual presentation of those calls that the Israelites were all well aware of and responded to accordingly.

Where's Jesus?

As the Spirit of God hovered then over the Ark of the Covenant (and therefore the Tabernacle where sacrifices took place), so His Spirit hovers now over those in whom dwell the Spirit of the Sacrificial Lamb, Jesus Christ.  It is God's Spirit Who leads His own.

It is furthermore interesting that when the cloud of the LORD moved, Moses would declare a victory chant.  Oh that we today would declare the victory we have in Jesus when we move in Him!

Father, I continue to look for and find Jesus in these daily readings.  I continue to find direction for living out my devotion to You.  Please let this journey continue!  Thank You!
