When the dew evaporated, a flaky substance as fine as frost blanketed the ground. The Israelites were puzzled when they saw it. “What is it?” they asked each other. They had no idea what it was. [Exodus 16.14-15]
After the LORD told Moses they would have meat in the evening and bread in the morning, quail came in the evening and this "what is it?" stuff in the morning.
As recorded in the Bible, the Israelites knew what dew was just as they knew what quail were. However, what was left over after the dew evaporated was something new. The people had never witnessed such an occurrence - they called it manna.
Lest anyone ever try to rationalize manna by scientific means, it is important to remember that manna was neither random nor regular. Instead, it occurred six days a week and, on the seventh, did not appear. There was nothing "natural" about this phenomenon. It was furthermore non-preservable over a day except on the sixth day when it would last two days. It was, in fact, phenomenal!
I really know nothing of this type of miraculous provision outside the realm of money. Yes, I have seen what I believe were miracles involving actual currency, but I have never witnessed a miracle of provision as thoroughly unexplainable as manna. At least, not that I know of...
While I consider myself in a type of 'wilderness experience' currently, I hope I don't blindly stumble through it failing to recognize God's provision as I pass through.*
Father, please give me eyes to see Your provision in this wilderness time for me!
* For historical explanation, my wife and I sold our house back in December last year and we are currently living with my dad. I also started a business last year in an industry that is now suffering greatly leaving me with very little income.
