A Daunting Task

Then the Lord gave these instructions to Moses and Aaron: “When the Israelites set up camp, each tribe will be assigned its own area.  The tribal divisions will camp beneath their family banners on all four sides of the Tabernacle, but at some distance from it. [Numbers 2.1-2]

This passage and the paragraphs that follow it in today's OYCB reading detail just some of the organization of the Israelites during their wilderness journey.  With just over 603,000 men, this organization must have been critical!

Most of us take little account how daunting a task it was for Israel to get anything accomplished, let alone stay in concert for their journey.  Any person who has attempted to get a family of just four ready to go to church on any given Sunday morning can get a small idea of what getting Israel from one place to another could have been like!

The fact that everything fit into place and into the right timing does, in fact, foretell of Jesus!  Just the way God had arranged for Israel to travel and camp clearly shows that God had it all planned out and that His plan worked.  Every detail of time and history that led up to the Advent of Christ was just as carefully arranged.  The reason was so that we today could look back at the history of the Bible and see how the events told therein progressed to the birth of Jesus.  It all started with a promise, and progressed to the Redemption of mankind.

Father give me eyes to see and a heart to understand the journey of Israel as it relates to revealing Jesus.
