Sex and Trust
The verbal exchange between the young woman and the young man in Song of Solomon is erotic. The dialog includes everything from visual enjoyment to oral sex. It is laced throughout with verbal enticement and seduction.
I have a question. If this writing is so sexually charged, how did it "make the cut" into what was considered sacred writings? Could it be that our predecessors who studied each ancient writing to determine if they were Canon-worthy (had continuity with each other to be considered Holy Scripture) were not alarmed by the outright sexual references found in Solomon's song? Could it be that the passion, love, lust, and seduction found in SoS were considered apropos?
Then in the NT reading, it seems the reading is all about Paul giving recommendation for Titus. My thought concerning this is the mere fact that Paul would give such an accreditation. There was obviously a whole lot of trust and mutual respect going on! Frankly that is what I see that I should glean from this. I need, first, to seek to build that kind of trust in myself, and second, to give that kind of trust to others. There is just a whole lot better "warm and fuzzy" feeling when trust is mutual.
Father, help the church today to "get it right" concerning the sexual relationship and the trust relationship.
