So, what about eating meat that has been offered to idols? [I Corinthians 8.4a]
What about it indeed! Once again, Paul acknowledges and makes provision for those weaker in faith. My question is, "Why?"
Okay, so Paul answers my question quite handily: But you must be careful so that your freedom does not cause others with a weaker conscience to stumble. [I Corinthians 8.9]
I guess the greater question that still begs to be asked however is this: "Why would anyone be content with their "weaker conscience?" If I were confronted on the issue and I claimed "weaker conscience" would that not in fact indict my unwillingness to be strengthened in my conscience? Specifically, what we are talking about here is grace. So, if I refuse to accept more grace when it is brought to my attention, am I not sinning terribly?
Father, if I err, please let it be on the side of grace (because grace comes through faith)!
