Chauvinist?

For the first man didn’t come from woman, but the first woman came from man. And man was not made for woman, but woman was made for man. [I Corinthians 11.8-9]

In supporting his statement that men (as a gender) should not worship with their heads covered, Paul makes an incredibly bold statement (as today's gender-related standards go). And, although Paul softens the blow with verses 11 and 12, he does not retract this statement - his basic instruction regarding the differentiation between men and women still stands.

Wow.

So, what's the point? I think regardless of what the Bible says, society (including the modern church) left this model long ago. And I feel like a chauvinist for just saying this! Am I right for feeling this, or have I (and all society) been brainwashed?

And what amazes me is that for all the "Bible-thumping" that goes on today, I never hear this topic being soap-boxed! Anyone who presses this issue would be ostracized severely - if not even penalized legally.

How are Christian men and women to live this out today?

Really.

Have we disregarded a basic principle? And even more importantly, if so, how has modern society suffered for it?

Father, help us to align ourselves with You - with Your Spirit - with Your Word.
